Literature Text

From opposite sides of the stage, Stella and Xavier glared at one another as their hands flew across their electric guitars.  The rock-and-roll battle was in its final five minutes, and neither contestant showed any signs of surrendering.

Intense music filled the air, much to the audience's delight.  Occasionally one or the other would pull off a dazzling flourish for extra attention.

Finally, the music came to an end, with Xavier and Stella both finishing with style.

"Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer's voice rang out, "the battle is over!  It's time to announce the winner!  The champion of today's Battle of Rock is..."

A hush enveloped the audience.  Both punk rockers crossed their fingers, hoping they'd be the champions.

"...STELLA CRESCENT!"

Cheers and applause rang out.  Stella pumped her fists in the air, while Xavier's jaw dropped.

HER?!  Darn it!  I thought I'd beat her for sure!

Stella beamed as the judge approached her to congratulate her.

"Congratulations, Stella Crescent.  Is there anything you'd like to say?"

"There's not much I can say.  It takes a cool head to prevail when things get heated up, and I know that well... unlike some people."

That last part had been very obviously directed at Xavier, who seemed about to explode with anger as he stormed off the stage.

That's the FINAL straw.  I'm resorting to the Book.

A few weeks ago, Xavier had picked up what had turned out to be a witch's old spellbook at a used bookstore.  He'd bookmarked a particular curse that would be useful to get the last laugh should he get upstaged at the battle.

As Stella prepared for her victor's encore, Xavier retrieved the book from his dressing room, found the page, and made some final preparations.

Let's see how charismatic she is when this curse kicks in.

At the end of the intermission, Stella took the stage alone, while Xavier relaxed in a V.I.P. seat, spellbook in hand.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Stella announced, "here's a little tune I like to call 'Smells Like Heaven'."

Smells Like Heaven? Xavier mused.  Now that's irony at its finest, as we'll all find out in a moment.

Stella launched into her music without delay, oblivious to Xavier as he began reciting the incantations from the book's pages.  He kept his voice down so nobody could hear him over Stella's guitar.

About five verses in, the curse was in place.  Xavier put the book away discreetly and sat back to watch.

Stella didn't even notice the first symptoms of the curse.  She was paying much more attention to her music than to the spots of black and white fur that were growing on various areas of her body.

The first thing she did notice was a pain through the front of her face as her nose and mouth began to bulge out.  She couldn't take her hands off the guitar to feel it, but if she had to guess she'd say it was some sort of snout.

That's weird... but I have to focus on the music!

Not at all sure what was going on, Stella tried to keep the audience's attention with a stylish 360-degree spin.  The audience responded with a collective gasp, leading her to believe they'd seen something besides what she'd intended.

And now that I think about it, I can feel something sticking out behind me... feels like... a tail?

Stella took another spin after her latest strum, and managed to grab her new tail.  It had the telltale black and white striping of a skunk... and come to think of it, her arms looked the same.

A soft RI-I-IP came from the toes of her boots, and Stella nearly fell backwards as her feet changed shape.  She managed to get a look at one; her feet were transforming into what looked like an animal's paws.

What's causing this?  What...

The rocker suddenly made eye contact with Xavier, who was grinning deviously.

HIM!  But what did he do?

Realizing she'd never be able to finish her song as planned in her current state, Stella quickly brought it to a close.  The audience applauded loudly, presumably at her ability to stay so calm under the circumstances.

As soon as she got the chance, Stella ran for her dressing room and checked the mirror.  Fortunately, she seemed to be done transforming; not so fortunately, the face of an anthropomorphic skunk stared back at her, black and white fur and all.

This is unreal.  What will the fans think when they see me like THIS at my next concert?  ...I guess I'll have to take a chance.  That Xavier!  Why I'm so mad, I could just...

When Xavier returned to his own dressing room to pack up and leave, the room inexplicably smelled terrible.
My half of a trade with :iconkathalia:, based on this picture of hers. It was a difficult choice; we don't share as many interests as I first thought, and I didn't want to tread on anyone else's commissions or so forth.

Looking back, I think I'm fondest of TFs when they turn out beneficial to the victim. I guess I just like the idea.
