Literature Text

It was the dead of night, and Indigo was sound asleep, not suspecting a thing.

Outside, a ladder gently settled against the wall underneath her very open window, and the silhouette of Kane scaled it by the light of a single burning candle.  Said candle was one of the transformative incensed ones he'd received from Maki and Suki the other day, so it kept him in the form of a life-size plush toy as he went.

It hadn't immediately occurred to him, but being a living plush doll made Kane the ultimate stealth artist.  Because his fabric-and-stuffing body was so light, his footsteps made practically no noise.  The absence of voice or breath didn't hurt, either.

Perfect.

Kane stepped into Indigo's room and gently placed the candle-holder down on her dresser.  The flickering light did little to illuminate the room, but he could see Indigo's face easily.

Within minutes, the candle worked its magic and transformed Indigo's body into a plushy state similar to Kane's.  She slept obliviously through it, not once opening her eyes.  The wolf remained by the dresser the whole time, and sidled up to her once it was done.

It was exceedingly tempting for Kane to give his rival's plush body a firm hug, but he'd come here for a purpose and that wasn't it.

Okay... better get to work before she wakes up.

Kane drew a pair of fabric scissors from his pocket.  Ever so gently, he brought them down to Indigo's neck and began to cut around it.  He worked quickly but firmly, not stopping until he'd cut clean around.

Indigo shifted slightly, but didn't wake up, oblivious regarding her now-disconnected head.

Detachable head... heh.  Wonder if Red would like that... nah, that's silly.  Who fantasizes about detachable body parts?

After putting the scissors away, Kane carefully picked up Indigo's head and turned it around, taking care not to spill any stuffing, his plush hands giving him a super-light touch.  He set it back down facing the opposite direction than how a head traditionally faces.

Kane found it sort of incredible that he still hadn't woken Indigo up, but then again those candles had been marketed to help people sleep.

It was time for the final step.  Kane took a needle and thread and began to sew Indigo's neck back together, making sure to pierce the fabric just right.  He made sure to stitch it all the way around, then cut the thread and knotted it once it was securely sewed.

Phew!  That's all done.  Better get out of here.

Kane snatched up the candle again, and left the way he'd come, taking the ladder with him once he'd reached the grass again.  In the candle's absence, Indigo returned to being flesh and blood, still sleeping without a clue what had happened.

Early next morning, Kane went outside to get the newspaper, only to be interrupted by an angry shout in a familiar voice.

"KAAAAANE!"

He looked up, and had to hold his breath to keep from laughing.  None other than Indigo was standing before him, her head facing towards him but the rest of her body facing away from him.  An unnatural scar running clean around her neck served as a reminder of the wolf's activities the night before.

"Hey, Indigo.  You look different.  Did you get a haircut?"

"Kane, would you happen to know anything about the fact that I woke up this morning to find myself staring down my own back?"

"Search me.  Why would I be the expert regarding your morning activities?"  Kane shrugged nonchalantly.

"Don't play smart with me, Kane.  I just know you were responsible for this.  And if I ever find out how you did it...!"

Indigo was ready to blow a fuse.  Kane decided to end the conversation there, and closed the door.

The two avoided each other for the rest of the day.  Indigo found it rather difficult to do anything with a backwards head, and ultimately had to fix herself by melting herself down in her metalworking furnace.

And knowing nothing of Maki and Suki, she never did figure out how he'd pulled off his nighttime prank.
At some point I've probably got to stop writing about Kane, but it's just so fun coming up with new ways for him and Indigo to screw with one another. I've already got a few more ideas.

It's amazing how much you can do simply by getting creative with the rules and tools you've already established. For example, I've already established that you can melt a person into a liquid in a furnace, and if left to cool they'll congeal back to normal. So what if you melted two people down, mixed them together as liquids, and then let them cool? ...I'll have to look into that later.

Kane is... downright clever
