The Orient was picturesque from far up above. It was summer, and the cherry trees had already turned from pink to green. The roar of a small airplane's engine broke the silence as it crossed over the rural landscape. Noting the GPS coordinates displayed on one screen, he turned back and yelled towards the plane's cargo bay. "Yo, Fluffy! We're almost in position." It was a relatively peaceful evening in Skygold City. The door to one particular bakery banged open, and out bounded a cream-colored anthro cat with pink and brown details, clutching an insulated bag labeled with a delivery address. Inside the bag, two freshly made Neapolitan cookiewiches (ice cream sandwiches made with cookies) waited to be delivered to a "Chocola Chipper", whoever that was. When Nea the elastic feline wasn't being a heroine, she made deliveries for her parents' bakery. This evening's delivery was to a high-class apartment building she'd never been to before, but she'd studied the city map ahead of time and figured out the best route. Turning to face down the street, Nea took a running start, then jumped and tucked her body around the delivery bag, shielding it as she took the form of a multicolored ball. Touching down, she took off rolling at top speed. People ran for cover and cars screeched to a halt as the tricolored spherical blur sped through the city.

The Singing Dunes of Dierdre squeaked and whistled as the wind swept over them, causing the almost-spherical grains to rub and roll against each other. The region to the eastern boundaries of Dierdre was a minor tourist attraction, the small sandy desert drawing in curious folk eager to witness the natural phenomenon. But the dunes were important in another way as well. To the local population of circuit-weaver driders they were a source of energy, and an important foundation of their economy. Giron Thundersilk stood on a rocky promenade at the edge of the Singing Dunes of Dierdre, staring out at the white sandy expanse. Slowly he removed his top, replacing it with a harness lined with metal strips, and loaded with small circular batteries. Giron was an energy collector, and took his role seriously. His village had learned long ago that the winds which blew across the sands, causing them to sing, also caused a build up of static electricity which could be harvested and sold. Newer

Tracy Flashtail frowned as she studied her map. According to rumors, the youkai settlement of Sakurai was supposed to be in this vicinity, and she was hoping to add some photos of it to her album. There was just one problem: she'd spent the last hour circling the area, and not caught sight of any sign of Sakurai anywhere. Letting out a sigh, the mountain harpy folded her map and returned it to her backpack before turning her attention to the eerily silent canyon her position overlooked. It was called Cherry Canyon, and Sakurai was supposed to be down there, but the area appeared to be completely empty-- and with steep cliffs all around, there was almost no getting in or out of the canyon by land (not that "by land" was the default option for a harpy). The PokéPark is a well-known place for Pokémon like yourself to have fun by participating in all sorts of games and activities. Just recently, a new addition to the park opened up, and you can't wait to see it for yourself. The building is hard to miss. It's a huge, spherical building made to look like a curled-up Sandshrew. A ramp leads up to the entrance, and there's a queue of all sorts of Pokémon waiting to get in. Above the entrance is the building's logo: a circle with speed lines to the side of it, like a rolling ball. As you wait in line, you daydream about what might await you inside. The Rollout Arcade, it's called. From what you've heard, it's inspired by Pokémon who can roll up into a ball, and they've made specific arrangements so even Pokémon who can't normally curl up can participate. Kay Farsee wandered through the dawn streets of Necropolis, her path seemingly random and vague. The werepuma paused as she came to an intersection, and for a brief moment her eyes glazed over. Her lips moved wordlessly and her fingers tightened over the letter clasped within her hands. Seconds passed before she blinked, her vision clearing. With a more certain stride, Kay turned left, her route taking her along the walls of the city, and hopefully, to a destiny that would see the return of Necropolis' renegade son. Ida slowed down as she took her morning walk, coming to an eventual halt as she spotted the figure standing just off the side of the path. To see someone traveling along this route was not overtly uncommon, however to see someone just standing so close to the weremouse's special secret gave Ida some reason for concern. Ukari Machikari's tails rotated rapidly, keeping him airborne as he scanned the desert by eye. The troublemaking whirly-kit (popular slang for "whirling kitsune", Ukari's race) was looking for one landmark in particular: an isolated desert temple that a certain character called home. After the "target practice" incident at Necropolis, Ukari had decided it was best to get some distance from the walled city for a while. At first he'd planned to hide out in the desert settlements of Dierdre, but overhearing some gossip about a snobbish gynosphinx with a taste for literature had changed his course; if what he heard was reliable, she was the perfect victim for a kitsune prank. Something off-color in the terrain caught Ukari's attention. Slowing his tails and letting his altitude drop, the kitsune contrasted the object's shape against the horizon.
